Playing subtitles with VLC

In this post we will show you how to play external subtitles with VLC media player. There are two ways to do that.

Method One:

Change the name of your subtitle file to match the name of your video file. Lets say if you have a video my_movie.avi then you should rename your subtitle file to my_movie.srt you don’t need to change the file extension just the name of file. So if you have subtitles in some other format lets say .ass then your subtitle file name would become my_movie.ass. Now make sure that your video and subtitle files are in the same folder. Then open your video with VLC media player, right click on the video screen go to Subtitles and you will see that your subtitles would already be enabled.

Method Two:

Open VLC media player go to File > Open File. In the Open... dialogue box press the Browse button to select your video file, then check the box "Use a Subtitles file" you will see that the File field below will get activated. Now press the Browse and locate the subtitles file on your computer. Press Ok and enjoy your video. This method is particularly useful if you are not happy by the font positioning or if your subtitles are out of sync. You can press "Advanced Settings..." button while selecting your subtitles file and adjust positioning and subtitle delay settings.

My Ubuntu 11.10 is the most stable OS ever!!!

Finally did it,Now I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 as Host OS in my PC.

Here are somethings I did manually, every thing else there was software center,it's just amazing.

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential linux-headers-generic

update the kernel header as your kernel

Now install every essential software from software center,it does not hang anymore.

to create a dvd from your installed ubuntu

Fire up your terminal.

Paste this source list in your sources.lists file “deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository karmic/ “.

Update your sources list using apt-get update.

Now you are ready to install remastersys.

apt-get install remastersys

It will ask other dependencies . You just answer yes to all whatever asked by system.

Finally you can see remastersys installed in your system.

A Great Blog For Cisco/Linux Enthusiast

Configure SSH server on Linux MicroCore

Here is an interesting article on MicroCore Linux,I haven't tried it on,can be useful though.

1. Start Microcore with Qemu

qemu ./linux-microcore-2.11.5.img

After boot you should see a prompt.

2. Check if openssh extension is installed

ls /mnt/hda1/tce/optional/openssh*
/mnt/hda1/tce/optional/openssh.tcz
/mnt/hda1/tce/optional/openssh.tcz.dep
/mnt/hda1/tce/optional/openssh.tcz.md5.txt

If you can't see the files above you should get them first. Run this command in terminal:

tc-load -w openssh

Make openssh extension being loaded during the boot of Microcore Linux:

echo "openssh.tcz" >> /mnt/hda1/tce/onboot.lst

3. Start openssh daemon (as a root)

/usr/local/etc/init.d/openssh start

You can see is an error message about missing sshd-config configuration file. So we need to create it.

mv /usr/local/etc/ssh/sshd_config.example /usr/local/etc/ssh/sshd_config

If you don't edit sshd_config file all the uncomment lines are used by default by opennssh deamon . Now we may run openssh again.

/usr/local/etc/init.d/openssh start

First time you successfully start openssh daemon, the public/private rsa key pair and public/private dsa key are generated.

4. Automatic start openssh deamon after boot of Microcore

echo "/usr/local/etc/init.d/openssh start" >> /opt/bootlocal.sh

5. Backup of configuration directory "/usr/local/etc/ssh"

echo "/usr/local/etc/ssh" >> /opt/.filetool.lst
/usr/bin/filetool.sh backup

6. Test ssh server (password is root)

ssh root@localhost

You should be able to login now.

configure SSH on 3600 series router on GNS3

configure SSH on 3600 series router on GNS3

from global config mode

ip domain-name sourav.com

crypto key generate rsa

choose key modulus 1024 as anything less than that will not support ssh version 2,also naturally 1024 offers better security

username sourav password cisco

line vty 0 4

transport input ssh

login local

privilege level 15

exit

ip ssh version 2

ip ssh authentication-retries 2

now you can see the version of the ssh configured on the router

by

do sh ip ssh

it should show

SSH Enabled - version 2.0

now try ssh from qemu host(linux microcore)

using the command

ssh sourav@192.168.0.1(the ip will be different in your case)
